"My husband and I bought an old farmhouse in need of a complete renovation. We needed fitted wardrobes; a linen cupboard, built in cabinetry, wall panelling and a window seat for the playroom.
Alec has produced the most wonderful creations. He worked closely with me to understand the look and feel we wanted to achieve with the house, helped guide me through materials and finishes decisions comfortably ahead of time and gave useful guidance on the impact (cost, time, robustness - we have two small children) of these decisions. Alec also helped with numerous other small touches and finishes that came up as we worked through the renovations giving practical but beautiful solutions to tricky problems (like plywood "walls" in the hall). "Recently we retired from a life of organic dairy farming and wanted to take something with us as a reminder. We rescued a couple of Fullwood milk vacuum jars from the old milking parlour and asked Alec Spencer if he would make them into two lamps for us to put in our new home.Alec came to the farm to look at the jars and to discuss our vague ideas and get a feel for project. He went away and made sketches for us to look at and then set to to create two wonderful, bespoke lamps. Each was mounted on a 3-legged structure as a nod to the milking stool of yesteryear and he incorporated bevelled edges onto each leg
to reflect the shape of a forage harvester ‘shear bar’. He took time to source L.E.D bulbs that complemented the design and even added dimmer switches. Carefully crafted in oak, the lamps blend well with our other furniture. They have exceeded our expectations and we love them.
We appreciated the way that Alec took our feeble, half formed musings and transformed them into wonderful reality. When we collected the lamps we met his young children and the whole experience was one of rounded and personal care and craftsmanship. We would highly recommend Alec to anybody thinking of commissioning a one-off piece or any other work for that matter."
